I am so thrilled to announce that I have started a podcast. The podcast, “Adventurer in the Healthcare System” is featuring patient stories from patients themselves. I think it’s important that people have opportunity to tell their journey their way and through their own eyes.
On a recent patient partner engagement webinar where we examine a case study around different models of patient partners in their impact in the healthcare system, a participant commented this is great feedback and acclaim from the hospital and medical community but I wonder is this is really the story the patient would tell. What details would they include? What would their perspective be from their journey navigating this system? What actually was the patient story in this case study, not the hospital patient story but the actual view from the person receiving the treatment and care?
It got me thinking. And thinking. And thinking some more. A lot about my story and the stories I am reading and hearing about daily on the news, on Twitter and through community members about people navigating the healthcare system and even more so now. Everyone’s story deserves to be told and shared. Everyone has a different story to share about their journey to better understand their own health and how to advocate for themselves. I know that by sharing my own health journey, it has not only helped me but allowed me to heal in that process. The new podcast, ‘Adventurer in the Healthcare System’ is a patient sharing their story to another patient. It is an exploration of their journey from pre diagnosis to during the storm. How you felt about your diagnosis, the barriers or positives that you had navigating the system during treatment or while seeking access to care, the compassionate caregivers you encountered along the way and more.
